I have found this through painstaking work. (Not really) And I didn’t organize it because I’m lazy.

Kinja'd!!!

Corvette: $4,500-$5,200 depending on engine and spec

Corvette L88 427: $6,500

Porsche 912: $4,700

Porsche 911: $6,490

Lamborghini Miura: $20,000

Ferrari 365 GTB/4: $16,665

Toyota 2000GT: $6,500

Sunbeam Tiger: $3,700

Jaguar E Type: $5,200

Got any more? Toss them in the comments! This fascinates me for some odd reason.

This is why we need time machines.

Inflation would be:

20,000 = 159,736.05

16,665 = 133,100.06

6,500 = 51,914.21

5,200 = 41,531

4,700 = 37,537

3,700 = 29,551

2,600 = 20,765.68 (average price of car in 60s)

average household income between 5000 and 10000 = 39,934 to 79,868

*according to completely random Googling.

In today’s dollars (approximately):

Corvette: $33,000 - $38,000

Corvette L88: $48,000

912: 34,500

911: $4,800

Miura: $147,000

365 GTB: $123,000

2000GT: $48,000

Tiger: $27,000

E-Type: $38,000

I set the year on the inflation calculator to 1966 and rounded off the numbers. So very approximate indeed.

As you can see, there’s still a large difference between what you’d pay for a sports car back then, and what you’d pay for one today.

My theory is that we use credit much more freely in this day and age... but I’m no economist, so if anyone actually knows, chime in yo.
